If you ask me two of the most important things a couple can do to help their marriage is to date each other and never go to bed angry at each other.
On June 5th we will celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary. When Morrison was a baby we were given some of the best advice from the nurse practitioner he saw at the pediatrician’s office. Never stop dating each other. With this advice, we would send him to my dad’s every Friday night and go out to dinner.
When the twins came we didn’t get to do it as often but would do it when we could. The one advantage of having kids 10 years apart is the older one can watch the younger ones eventually. I’ll give Morrison credit here. He’s a great big brother and has never griped about watching the twins. He and Paul are really close now that they have very similar interests.
On Saturday Morrison went to his friend’s house and the twins went to their friend’s house. So it was just me and Michael. We went and enjoyed an early dinner, played some pool, and came home to watch the Braves game we recorded. It was nice to just hang out.

If you always put your kids above your spouse throughout your entire marriage, when they are grown and leave the house and it’s just you and your spouse what kind of relationship will you have? Will you like each other? Will you even know each other? After 26 years together we still like each other. We take care of our kid’s needs and most of their wants, but we put each other first. In today’s society, I know this seems selfish. But it isn’t. It should go God, spouse, and children.
What’s your favorite go-to date night?
